About ACCA South Africa

In 1993 ACCA was formally relaunched in South Africa, having left the country when its members were absorbed into the Public Accountants' and Auditors' Board on that body's launch in 1951. From 1994 ACCA tuition and examinations have been provided in South Africa with papers in South African tax and company law.

In the United Kingdom and in European and other countries, ACCA members are recognised to perform the audit function. With the restructuring of the profession in South Africa, regulations governing the performance of this function are under review. ACCA members are currently recognised to act as accounting officers to close corporations. Recognition to perform the audit or attest function awaits the outcome of the profession's transformation process.

The ACCA's professional qualification has been welcomed by some of South Africa's top universities, including the University of Pretoria, Rand Afrikaans University, University of Stellenbosch and the University of Natal.

The ACCA Professional Scheme has been registered at Level 7 on the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) is also registered on Level 5 of the NQF.

Both qualifications have been registered as learnerships under FASSET (Finance, Accounting and Management Consulting Sector Education and Training Authority), with the Department of Labour.

Several large organisations have been accredited as ACCA Employers and a significant proportion of ACCA members in this country, occupy senior positions in commerce, industry and the public sector.
